Description:

This property is a 100 acre home and getaway for a couple and their family. The primary utilization of the property is the homestead for the owners and the care for their horses and longhorns. Currently they have 11 Arabian horses and 25 Longhorns. They are seeking someone that will also help maintain the 4 Homes that are on site. The main home is lived in by the owners while the second 2 homes are used for family visits and the occasional VRBO or guest nights. The last home is a 2 Bedroom studio apartment for the employee. The duties required by the caretaker will include but not be limited to:

  • Caring for and working the Longhorns
  • Assist in the sale and hauling of Longhorns 
  • Caring for and riding the horses
  • Cleaning stalls
  • Monitoring herd health and medicating of horses and longhorns
  • Mowing and weed eating yards
  • Limb trees
  • Fencing
  • Shredding pastures
  • Rolling Pastures
  • Pick up feed from town and feed animals
  • Take care of the property while the owners are away
  • Watch dogs when the owners are away

Qualifications:

  • Previous ranch work skills
  • Must be able to care for horses and cattle
  • Must be able to set your own schedule and be self-motivated
  • Have basic horse skills
  • Understand cattle care
  • Able to drive a Tractor with shredder, roller and disc attachements
  • Have common sense, be respectful and treat the place as if you owned it

            The owners are seeking to create a family friendly hunting/recreation ranch with quality game and unique opportunities. While the owners are hands on, they seek a couple who is willing to take direction and complete the tasks of enhancement and maintenance of the ranch and the lodging. This 1,000 acre ranch is built around wildlife and water. There are two lakes on the property comprising of roughly 130 and 15 acres as well as rice fields, deer blinds and great lodging. They have and will continue with an atmosphere of comfort and aesthetic value as the ranch continues to grow.

            As the Ranch and Facilities Foreman of this property, you will be responsible for the complete oversight of the ranch with the owner. The tasks include but are not limited to:

            • Scouting and processing of game animals
            • Lodge maintenance and upkeep
            • Lawn care and landscaping
            • Pool maintenance
            • Firewood cutting and stacking at lodge
            • Lodge, vehicle and equipment supply inventory
            • Truck and Heavy equipment operation and maintenance and cleaning
            • Fence monitoring and upkeep
            • Monitoring and upkeep of water and irrigation systems (Lodge, lake and Pasture)
            • Boat cleaning and running
            • Filling Feeders
            • Blind upkeep and maintenance

              Description:

              The Ranch Orchard Manager shall be responsible for assisting the Ranch Manager with the operation, improvement, maintenance and security of the ranch and affiliated property, including the improvements, equipment and tools thereon. A majority of the manager’s time will be managing a private pecan and fruit orchard, tending a large garden, and maintaining large yards and landscaping. A Good candidate must be a self-starter, responsible, dependable, and trustworthy; Must also be able to develop and follow schedules and complete tasks in a timely manner. The duties required by the orchard manager will include but not be limited to:

              • Planning, planting, pruning, and maintaining the orchard (both fruit trees and pecan trees) and garden, as well as providing general tree care
              • Maintain owner’s yards and general landscaping
              • Maintain records of orchard and garden plantings, harvests, and pesticide/fertilizer applications
              • Under supervision of Ranch Manager, general facilities maintenance on owner’s property in Bandera County, including ranch homes and other owner facilities
              • Work with Ranch Manager in helping the owners and their guests as needed
              • Assist Ranch Manager in maintaining wildlife blinds and feeders as well as guide guests in recreational and hunting activities
              • Assist Ranch Manager in making appropriate recommendations to the owners
              • Conduct himself at all times to enhance the reputation of owners, employees, and the organization for high moral character and integrity
              • May be asked to assist occasionally on other ranches as needed. Primarily related to yard, home and tree maintenance
              • Develop a comfort with, and full understanding of, ranch, orchard, and owner facility operations and layout
              • Provide recommendations for improvements to Ranch Manager and Family Office
              • Care for agricultural (vegetable garden and fruit & nut orchard) variety selection, planting, maintenance, and harvest
              • Assist in maintaining all ranch facilities, homes, and equipment
              • Understand and become knowledgeable on the entire ranch and ranch boundaries become familiar with, and assist in maintenance of, all game feeder and blind locations
              • Serve as a guide for ranch tours and hunting
              • Repair and maintain drip irrigation systems and other water systems on the ranch
              • Prune and maintain the trees on the residential properties – some knowledge as arborist advantageous
              • Assist in updating and maintaining roads
              • Patrol and watch the property and river on assigned weekends
              • Be available to help owners any time requested (including carrying and unloading luggage, etc.)
              • Assist Ranch Manager in wildlife surveys, varmint control, and wildlife management.
              • Work with Ranch Manager, as requested, in cattle and farming operations and pasture management

              Qualifications:
              • Possess a broad knowledge for farm, orchard and ranch operation
              • Mechanical knowledge for equipment repair and maintenanc
              • Knowledge of Horticulture, Gardening, and Arboricultur
              • Basic construction knowledge to assist in overseeing project
              • Knowledge of current rules & regulations regarding land use, farming, ranching, and hunting
              • Knowledge of irrigation and water systems
              • Knowledge of best practice safety procedures
              • Knowledge of pesticide and fertilizer applications
              • Capable of managing and mentoring people, including H2A workers
              • Ability to handle complex situations that may arise (research and problem solving)
              • Ability and demeanor to serve as an independent guide for ranch tours and hunting activities
